I had no idea painting roses would be such a pain. They are too intricate with all the little petals and so many shade variations of the EXACT same color. So I wasn't happy with my rose painting which took me about 5 hours. Keep in mind this painting is only 3" by 4" so it's not very big at all. You have to wait for the paint to dry in between each layer (I went to some garage sales while waiting for paint to dry so that may have added some time to the project....oh, and I went grocery shopping and had lunch). I really feel like I overworked it - it got way too dark, it's not luminescent and my greens are all similar.
On the other hand, I was much more pleased with the yellow flower. What kind of flower is that anyways? I don't know my flowers but I do know it is NOT a dandelion. I spent all of 20 minutes on it. It's not overworked and much plainer.
I think I just need to practise, practise, practise.

I like the yellow one better also. Where did you go to lunch at? Did you go with Mom or Alicia?
No, I just got 4 CA Sushi rolls at Carr's. I went over to Mom's though, they were having garage sale in her circle. D. put the piano out for sale, the one that was in the garage - it doesn't work right now. Needs a handyman.

The flower is a mum. Your watercolor of that one is fantastic, really nice.
Kinda looks like a strawflower. If the flower is stiff and feels dry, then it's a strawflower...we've grown them in the past.

Sweet little paintings...I feel that the smaller they get the more difficult to manipulate the values...roses are always a challenge...so many spirals and curves! :) "Practice makes perfect?"...Each time gets better and better...I keep telling myself that too...LOL!
I can see the texture in your paintings...I like them both for entirely different reasons.
