Watercolor Leaves

I collected leaves from various trees/brush on our property in Missouri while we were on vacation. There are so many varieties of Maple, Oak and other trees that are so pretty in their autumn colors.

Cedar and Buckbrush

Sassafras and Oak

Red Maple and Sugar Maple

I think I got the colors right on paper, but my scanner seemed to darken and highlight some of the colors over others.....I was surprised - these do NOT look exactly like my paintings. I wonder if it's the type of paint I was using? I bought a cheap travel paint compact that is made in China. It only cost $2.75 so it makes me think the paint is rather cheaply made. I'm wondering if there is some kind of component in the paints that make them show up differently under scanner light.

Has anybody else had that same experience?

Hey mom, Love them all! They look really good even though it's not what they should be. Love you!

I like your sketches. I don't ever have luck with scanning pictures.

These are beautiful no matter. I never have success with scanning either. Thats why I usually take photos of them.

That's weird about the paint not scanning well, even though they may not totally look like your originals, I think they are very lovely and would make a beautiful set of cards.

They still do look nice. Maybe it's all that lead in your paint that came from China?

The less expensive paints have less pigment in them. And if these are kid friendly then they probably have other resistant properties as well.

I think they all look great though, so if they look better in person, WOW!!!

I also bought cheap oil paints and thought the same thing but the printer and scanner makes its own colors so it might have nothing to do with your painting. It has its own lighting. Lighting makes all the difference.
If you notice on Picassa, when you get a dark photo, you can lighten it.
It may or may not turn out the way you want it to.

Very nice botanicals. And if you use Picasa, you can adjust the colors and values to look like the originals.
