Guest speaker

Today we had a guest preacher. He started out telling us he had three points; 1. a prison cell 2. pineapple upside down cake and 3. applying the bible to our lives. Needless to say, I got very engrossed in the prison cell story, then the cake story and forgot to sketch until he was moving on to the third point. Then I realized I didn't have my sketching pencils so I had to pull a blue pen out of my purse and sketched on the back of the bulletin.

Just in case you want to know how those 3 points go together; (long story short) a man was in a prison cell for 13 years when he was given a key, he used the key as a sharp object to dig around his prison cell window for 3 more years, never thinking to use the key to open the door to escape. He was not using the key properly and for it's intended use. All the ingredients needed to make a pineapple upside down cake are not enough, you actually have to mix it and bake it to make the cake. Having a bible (just like the ingredients) isn't enough. You actually have to read it, understand it, and apply it to your lives. The key or ingredients (bible) are of no use if not used for the intended purpose.

Interesting sermon points, wasn't sure how all that was going to fit together, now wonder you almost forgot to sketch.

This is so true.
People are against the Bible but it gives you a back ground, and a footing to stand on without falling into muddy waters.I think its wrong not to teach it to children. I used to love my lunch hours when we would sit on benches in the gym eating sandwiches and this old woman would show up and put up a velvet board and tell us stories with other velvet images sticking to the board of Jesus and mary. She had camels and mountains and other things.
I enjoyed my lunch hours and kids all sat quietly listening, mesmerized by her.

Pretty neat sermon idea! Good sketch on the fly:) I always find ink so hard because there is no eraser! You have to make sure that every line is going where you want!
