Waste Water problems, again

A week and a half ago we had our sewer back up and overflow. We called a drain cleaner and he came and reamed it out. It backed up just two days later. The same guy came back, redid the job and didn't charge us for the second call out. Well, this morning after I posted the toilet backed up, spilled over and flooded the tub too! What a frustrating morning!

I called a different plumber from work and arranged to have them meet me at the house at 2:00 (I took off early). He thoroughly looking the situation over and then he snaked the toilet. After sending the snake up through the roof twice before getting it to go down through the wastewater lines. I don't know if that's unusual or not, but my husband seems to think he should have known when he did it. The first time the snake was whipping around in the backyard freaking my dogs out.

So he got it all reamed out and then billed me for two hours instead of one. He spent a lot of that time going into my crawlspace, trying to look under the porch, and snaking the air vent from the bathroom to the roof two times.

Did I get overcharged? Is it not his fault that the snake kept going the wrong way? Should he have figured it out sooner? Should he just get to the job or is it good he looked in the crawlspace also?

He's sure he got 'er cleaned out good, but I'm concerned because the last guy just a couple weeks ago was sure too. I feel irritated like I don't know if I got taken advantage of but at the same time happy the problem is fixed, yet still worried tomorrow it will be backed up again. ugh.

I wonder if your line is collapsed someplace? Hopefully it won't have to be dug out and replaced. I don't think it should back up that often. You can't always tell where the snake is going. What a pain to have it stopped-up so soon after the last time.

To all: we are fairly certain the pipe is broken or disconnected somewhere between the house and city sewer pipes and will probably have to dig up the front yard and replace pipes. UGH!

Well Patty, the "good" side is that this is summer and it will be easier and maybe cheaper to do the digging. Don't want to imagine what it would be like in January! UGH!

In my experience not being able to dump water down the sinks, toilets, etc is far worse than not having any water at all. You can always haul water into your home. But getting ride of excess water and having plugged lines is really difficult to live with.. Good Luck Patty, et al !

I don't know if you remember our Hillside home, but over a period of years we dug up and repaired every single sewer line before we finally got the waste water to stop backing up and me having to clean up many messes before it was all over..
