Panda

(This is not a picture of the seizure, this is just a normally very relaxed dog!)

My dog Panda just had a pretty scary seizure. She's never had one before and there was much thrashing about and salivating. She is over it now, but is staying very close to me and keeps breathing her very bad breath into my face. I love her, but it's a bit much right now. She's .....

20 minutes later....Panda just went into another seizure. She foamed at the mouth, drooled profusely and then very unsteadily walked around before she collapsed and began seizuring. This time I was able to walk with her holding her collar and then sat on the floor where she collapsed and held her the whole time. Her legs were thrashing but I was snugged up against her back so I could help her control herself and keep her down on the floor so she wasn't in danger of hurting herself. This one was shorter. Just a few minutes long. She was dazed for a longer time afterwords and is now laying on the floor right next to me. We've decided that if she has another one before a half hour is up I am going to take her in to the Pet Emergency Treatment center.

We used to have another dog, a dachshund named Ruger, who regularily had seizures so I'm not overly concerned. Ruger never had them back-to-back like this though. I'm hoping Panda just calms down and is able to fall asleep so that I can go to bed too.

15 min later...She's still just laying on the floor, looking very normal. I put the other dog, Roxy, in her kennel because she kept trying to push in to see what was going on.

I'm going to log off and start getting ready for bed. Let's hope we both have a calm night.

I am so sorry to hear about Panda. I wonder what is causing this? I have never seen a dog have a seizure. I would probably panic. I hope you all got a decent nights sleep. Prayers & hugs for you both.

Oh my! I hope you were both able to have a restful night. I had a Chesapeake Bay Retriever that had a 'single' seizure. I found him while it was occuring. I lost him. It was awful.

The vet told me that 'epilepsy' was common in retrievers. I had never known. There is medication for it but we never got the chance to find out.

My heart goes out to you and to Panda. Keep us informed!

Big Hugs!

good luck with this, none of my dogs ever had a seizure so I wouldn't know what to do. You seem to have it under control - hope all stays well

Patty, I hope all is well this Sunday morning. Maybe MaryAnn slipped Panda something.

To all - she just had the two and now seems to be fine. I'm going to schedule a regular check up for her with the vet. Seizures can be caused by thyroid problems as well as epilepsy and (scary) brain tumors. I worked in vet clinics for about 6 years so I've seen lots and don't panic easily.

Yikes, that would be scary. Good thing you have some experience with this kind of thing. Hope all turns out well.

That sounds scary, poor Panda..and poor you! Glad you have a bit of expertise on the subject and that Panda will get checked out.

Patty, I sure hope you can get some sleep tonight. That is so scary about Panda. A doctor's visit would be a good idea. Let us know what happens.
