Record highs!

Anchorage hit a record high of 81 degrees yesterday! It has been hot and sunny this entire summer so far. It got warmer in some areas of town, I heard 83 in some places, but the official weather service temperature was 81.

It has been so warm that when I leave my hot, stuffy office and step outside, I can feel a heat wave. Opening the door to my car feels like opening an oven. While I'm driving with the window down I can feel warm air blowing in.

Although its been sunny I could barely see the mountains due to a smokey haze. There are 71 reported wildfires around the state and the smoke is drifting over Anchorage.

I think this is the best summer Alaska has ever had and I've lived here most of my life. We were discussing last summer at work and one of my friends reminded me that we only got above 70 degrees twice last year. We had rain almost every day - the weather service ranked last summer as our third coldest since they have kept records of weather in Anchorage.

Even if it started raining tomorrow and rained every day for the rest of the summer, it would still be the best summer ever!

I miss the smell of wood smoke from all the fires.

I'm so very glad that you're having a really great summer! I'm also sorry to hear about the wild fires. Things are always worst somewhere else and that's when we truly count our blessings!

Enjoy the whether and if you have a cook-out, save me a turkey burger!

Love you and thanks for visiting w/me even when I'm too busy to check in!

You're havin a heat wave. I remember being in Nome one summer. The tour guide told us to pack cold weather clothes and there was a record high temp. Needless to say I took a knife and cut the turtle out of a neck of my shirt and cut the sleeves off. Ha... you just never know what the weather will be like.

Hey, give us some of that sun and warm weather! I'm freezing here in Montana. We've had rain here in the mountains and very cool temperatures.
