Our son and DIL came over this evening and when they walked in the door said, "did you know there are two moose in the front yard eating your tree?" So I went out on the front porch to investigate and capture the evidence. Yes, there were two, a cow and calf. The calf had been on our porch the evening before but I didn't see the mama that time. The calf snacked on my rosebushes and then wandered off.
They broke off one of the main branches. Sweetie said he may cut the tree down this summer - they keep damaging it and it's all uneven and unhealthy. If he does, I'm planting something new, something more moose resistant. That's the funny thing, I was told a May Day tree was moose resistant but it seems to be the favorite tree on our street.

In our yard where the deer are we have put something around the trees to protect them. Can't you do that?
I love the adventures with the moose :)
Wow. I'd never see anything like that here. Awesome.
Love for a great day!

I wish I could show this photo to all the people that complain about deer eathing their flowers. Ha.. What a nusiance. The poor things are just hungry. They don't know that you planted that tree for your own personal viewing and shade. They thought you were planting it for their winter snack.
Patty - I've heard hanging bars of Irish Spring soap (in nylons or something similar) will keep the moose away. I know the scent of that soap keeps me away!!
I dont know what tree would be moose proof...
down here in Kenai at the WalMart store, they put fencing around the trees, but the smaller moose just get underneath and eat the trees!!

Rotten Moose!
My Dad has a few May day trees as well and the Moose eat them too. He has started wrapping them in burlap/mesh wire to save them.

Oh my! And all I've got is Chipmunks out of their winter hide-aways darting around and "stealing" under the Birdfeeder. Actually, twice this week, we had a Sharp-shinned hawk catch one of those (UGLY-raid-the-birdfeeder) Starlings-hooray!
Hope you can figure out something to quell this "Bad Moose behavior." :-)
boy I wonder what tree they wouldn't like? Poor guys I guess they need hay.
Oh, poor tree :( This made me think of monkeys here which keep coming back to eat the Frangipani trees - we've given up expecting them to grow into anything special now!
