Zentangle

As you know I've been trying to do more sketching in my sketchbook. But lots of times I don't feel like it...nothing looks interesting, or is too difficult, too easy, too something. Maybe I'm just lazy. Anyways, one of the blogs I check often posts pictures of Zentangles. I thought it was a made-up word at first, but it isn't. Well, it probably was at one time, but now it's really an official word, there's even a website devoted to Zentangles ( http://www.zentangle.com/ ).

So since I was going through a dry spell on sketching I decided to create a zentangle. Here's my first attempt.

The whole point of the zentangle is to NOT know what it's going to look like when you're done. I didn't so I guess I succeeded on that part. There's also not supposed to be an up or down; it can be viewed from any angle and look "right". I put a flower in before I read the rules, so I guess I messed that part up.

My husband stated "looks like you were smoking something funny." I'm not showing him any of my creative art in the future. I need support, not snarky comments.

ps. I still love him. He's kind of funny. And honest. And I'd like to state for the record that I wasn't smoking anything at all!

I love your Zentangle. How long did it take you to draw that? I wish I had your talent.

I LOVE it! Can I use it to make a quilt??? seriously...? Can't you just see that in black & white prints with maybe a spot of color thrown in????

Hey, I like that. So doodleing can now be art? If you call it Zentangle!

I think its a very beautiful design and I love the flower. If it were on material, it would make a lovely pillow and/or bed spread left in black and white.
If you would continue making it you could make another flower upside down couldn't you? This would fit the pattern then wouldn't it?

Well, I think what you're smoking is great, cause I love it!!!!!

Designs like that used to one of my favorite things to do. I haven't done one in a long time! I have never heard of Zentangle, I'll have to check that out.

I like the flower in the middle. That would make a great card design.

I hope you do more of those.

It appears to me that your dry spell is actually quite full of the salty ocean. I am thoroughly impressed with your work!

I love it. Especially, the flower. Creative people are lazy, they move when they are inspired. You are too "hard" on yourself.

I'm going back to your post to click on the link, it's truly awesome. You should frame it, it looks great for a first time project. You are great at so many things... I love when you share them with us.

Love, peace and blessings!

I want you to know I went and checked out the zentangle website and I like your first attempt more than most of the things they had posted! If this is your dry spell, I wish I'd have one. I went and got a fresh pigma pen and I'm even inspired to try one and I can't draw a stick figure.

To all: I fixed the link - it wasn't working at first. That drawing probably took about 3 hours...it's kind of tedious filling in space with small designs. Anyone who wants to use it for a quilt design is welcome to it.

Hiya Patty! Fancy finding you - I put zentangle into google search and up you popped!! I have just started doing them too and I hadn't heard of a rule about not doing them one way up, I think as it's a doodle you can do what you like!! I did a flower too and I've received one from Teri that's definitely one way up. Yours is gorgeous by the way.

I do zentangle all the time, but I do what's called zentangle art, with flowers and other shapes. I post a lot of them on DreamOnAMoonbeam@blogspot.com. Come take a look. :D
