One of the things I like about the Lower '48 is the history. Nothing built in AK is really old; it's all built in this century. However, in MO, on my parents-in-law's farm there is an old cemetery that contains loved ones from way back in the 1800's. When I'm down there and walking around I can imagine these people; the children playing in the woods, the family riding in their wagon pulled by horses to church, the mother's sorrow as she buries her 3 month old child, just everyday life back in the 1800's. All before every home had a car, electricity, indoor plumbing, big screen TV's and cell phones!Herbert, aged 3 months and 10 days. Died February 2, 1888.
Julia O., wife, born 12/26/24 died 12/9/76 51 years, 11 months and 13 days. I find it odd that they spelled it out to the exact amount of days someone lived. Then I remember that I am now 50 years old and she only lived about 2 years past my age right now. That's young!

Those old cemetaries hold a lot of history indeed. Lotsof sadness too. It used to be common to lose a baby. Thankfully that isn't the norm now. Reading a stone that tells of such a young woman dieing makes one want to take care of oneself. You never know. That piece of farm machinery looks like it could be some yard art to me. It has a future. :)
Yes we also learn a lot about history from our old cemetaries.
It is pretty scary when you come across names that are so much younger than you are. Its like you are living on borrowed time already.
Then you can't help but ask yourself, what is this all for?
The struggling, the fighting, the sadness, the joy. People all running around doing things just to leave it all behind.
I think looking at old cemetary stones are interesting.
My Dad's family were caretakers of the local cemetary for almost 100 years. I always loved going down to help them mow and check out the old stones.
i think we all love old cemetaries - so much history and stories. Families all together, or adding in a step-mother most likely. very interesting
The passing of time can be so haunting one moment and so beautful the next...Interesting captures
with intriguing stories behind them...:)I'll bet it was nice to see all the lush greenery...:)
