Little Moose

The moose are back. At least this little guy was (his mom is probably my tree killer!). He started out in our neighbors back yard, but when he saw my sweetie taking his picture from the back porch, he moved around to the front of the house.

Tim opened the front door and kept taking pics as the little guy came up and nibbled on my rose bush and then he came right up to Tim and let him pet his nose and rub his muzzle.
There are about 1,000 moose that live in Anchorage year-round. The municipal site I checked states that in a winter with very heavy snow we see even more because they are drawn to areas with less snow where they can navigate easier.

O my I want one in my back yard too!
How special is this and is it normal for them to be like that? That they are not shy?
I can imagine that not everyone is happy with them if they eat up your trees, but eh it their country too and maybe they are having a hard time finding food?
Well lovely picture story!

have a nice day!

Shame on Tim... glad we didnt see him on the news getting trampled!! but, it was a small one, so I guess it probably couldnt have done much harm. I have some trees that the moose have eaten off too...I always wanted Lilacs, but I know the moose love them too, so I have never planted any.

I am assuming you have moose in your parts as we have deer here?

moose are pretty common - there are times when I will see moose every other day for awhile but then stretches where you don't see any. If I have visitors in town, I can't find one to save my life. But the day they leave I will see three! You are not supposed to encourage moose to be friendly with people (or feed them) because they will stomp and trample people. Tim just patted the curious little guy. I'm sure if the mom was around that never would have happened. Mom's are very protective of their calves.

Wow, Tim was brave!

I can't believe the "moose kid" got so close to your house. My cat would have been freaking out big time.
