As some of you know, I started this blog to keep in touch with my sister Kris, who lives in WI, and my parents who are snowbirds in AZ right now. My sister Kris used to own the cabin that we presently call ours. She had purchased property next to us on the lake and then when she decided to move out of state, we purchased it from her.
That being said, I'm posting these pics for Kris. You are all welcome to look too, but if you are bored I won't be offended. Kris had insulated the upstairs of the cabin but then squirrels took up residence and ruined the insulation. My husband tore it all out, patched up the holes that allowed the squirrels in and then re-insulated, put in plastic vapor-shield stuff and then put this nice wood up over it all. Trim is still coming.
This is the window that looks out towards Mt. McKinley and overlooks the lake. A friend from work made me that beautiful quilt.
This is the back of the cabin. You can see where the staircase goes down - sweetie put up a temporary railing so we don't fall off the edge. Eventually we will make a prettier one.
This is the back corner downstairs, the stairs starts just behind the oil stove. Tim has been caulking between the logs - the back wall is done.
This is my kitchen area. It used to be a wood bench, but sweetie installed some cabinets he got for free from a friend. He recessed the counter top so that my propane stove would still be at the right level for me to cook. I'm kind of short and the way it was before was too tall for me. Underneath is one of our water jugs. We keep the dog water bowl below it to catch any spills.
This is the dog cave that he made under the staircase. It keeps the three dogs away from the middle of the cabin where they are underfoot. And annoying to me. And get tripped over.
I hope you enjoyed this mini tour of our cabin. It is one of my favorite places to be.

It's a lovely tour and just what I would expect a cabin in Alaska to be. How in heavens name did he get the wood up there on a snowmobile? or was it in summer - can you drive in closer in summer????
great tour! It's gorgeous, I love your cabin! I've always wanted to see Alaska, your photos make it very 'real' to me! What a beautiful place!
No wonder you enjoy being there. It is a cozy cabin.
Patty, you and Tim made that cabin very nice! I like the loft. I like the dog cave. I like it all. Can I buy it back from you? ( I jokes ) I will have to make a trip back home next winter and go out to the cabin. Did the stove work ok? Tim still thinking about going with wood?
Mim - the wood was hauled in by snowmachine in the winter when you can drag it behind on sleds...very time consuming and lots of work. We had two teenage boys helping us at the time. In summer we can get closer, but still 3 miles away. Kris - oil stove still doesn't work well. He's going to have to tear it apart and really get into it. We used the kerosene heaters on this last trip.
Patty. I love it.. Wish we could have checked it out while Krissy still lived there. We have the same oil stove at our cabin ( 7 years now) and it works great. I wonder if Bill & Tim should talk.. maybe Bill can give him some pointers? Could be the fuel?
anway, if you want them to communicate, let me know.!

That is a really great place to retreat to. Wish my hubby and I owned a little cabin somewhere by a lake....someday.
I love the cabin pics PA...can I come visit too????
You and Tim have made the cabin very nice. I'm glad you have a getaway.
What an amazing place... I marvel at the fact that all the construction materials, furniture and cabinets...etc had to be hauled in...Whew! What a nice little slice of heaven for you! :)
Looking at the photos I just realized that P. is not talking about going up to D.'s cabin now that we are gaining daylight. P. must be getting old?
I loved the tour of the cabin!!!
What anice cabin!
It must be great out there!
I know how stunning ALaska nature can be.
I like that cove under the stairs for the dogs, so clever and cosy.
