Dog Sled Races

This little guy was not chosen for today's race.

It's been cold, it was only 5 degrees this morning so after I fixed my husband's lunch, I crawled back into bed where it was warm.

Later he called me from work and told me there were dog races at the Tozier track so I ventured out and took a few pictures. It had warmed up to 10 degrees by then. Still not warm enough for me, but I suffered for your sake....there, now don't you feel guilty looking at these pics from the warmth of your home?waiting for something....the next race perhaps?

Controlled chaos; several teams of dogs that have just finished a race

The races today were sprint races, it requires long-legged dogs. I know it appears that some have short coats not suitable for these temperatures, but looks can be deceiving. Huskies have two coats of hair, a dense downy undercoat and then another layer on top that usually has longer hair. I must admit I was feeling a little sorry for that pointer-looking one wearing the blue coat. Let's hope he's an indoor dog when he's done racing.

I love the dog pics. Hey, you were warmer than us! I think our high was -1, which means Aunt Krissy was probably like -10 degrees below zero.

Glad you got outside today...I peeked out the door and that was about it.

I have always wanted to see dog sled races. The Ididerod in particular. I agree that some of those dogs look like they don't have enough fur. Brrrrrrrr.
