Sketching in Church

I decided to try sketching in church after seeing Teri's blog. What's nice about sketching while sitting in church is that the people hold still (for the most part), you can do it inconspicuously and still listen to the sermon. I like it and plan to do more.

This is Don. He's one of the Deacons in our church. He wears lambchops which I find so outdated but it's sooooo Don. If you knew him, you wouldn't be able to imagine him without. He was sitting in the pew in front of me with his whole attention on the speaker so I was able to draw him in some detail without him being aware.

So, here's the question. Do you let people know you've drawn them after you've done it? Or do you keep it anonymous?

Anonymous!!!! You don't want everyone watching you. They must pay attention in church. This is a great sketch by the way. Don would be happy.

Patty, this is a WONDERFUL sketch!! You are right, they sit still and are the best models and it doesn't stop you from listening. Someone suggested maybe the Pastor thinks I am taking notes. lol. But I still near the back.

come join us at the 'Drawing In Church group and blog. I will send you an invitation.

Oh, and no, don't tell.

Hmmm, you might want to be anonymous, because you don't want people looking over their shoulders all the time. It's a wonderful sketch. It's a lot better than at our church, we have one lady that plays sudoko during church, doesn't stay for the beginning hymns (she calls them racket) and I found out today, refuses to shake hands with anyone during the greeting chorus.

Sometimes I tell/show them -- especially if they are personal friends, but more often I don't.

I second Teri's invitation to join http://drawinginchurch.yahoogroups.com and also the blog that goes with the group.

What a fun way to capture folks doing what they do.

No, don't tell them. I think you'd get a more honest depiction of them.

I think sketching in church is wonderful & personal thing to do, but don't tell. Maybe in the future you can do something with the sketches. Patty, you are so talented. I'm just amazed.

That is good! Spitting image I would say. I agree with the anonymity before, and after you can decide if you want to show them or not. :) I ALWAYS have to take notes or doodle during sermons or classes. My mind is more focused if my hands are doing something! :)

Great sketch. Telling them depends on how well it looks like them. lol.
Thanks for your comment on my blog post. I have seen your comments on others too. Yours looks interesting so I will be back too.

Great sketch but I am thinking anonymous?

Left a comment for you on my blog from yesterday. I'd like to learn more about the house you mentioned.

You are so good. I can tell you about someone I knew who drew a picture of a gentleman in the doctor's waiting room and then gave it to him as she was leaving. He was so delighted, that he offered to pay her for the drawing.
