Crazy about horses, even then

I was fortunate to have parents who encouraged me to draw. In hindsight, I suppose any parent would encourage a child to do something quiet that keeps them occupied for long periods of time! Especially when they have five children. I remember sitting at our dining room table in the evenings, drawing pictures.
My mom saved several of my earlier pieces of art. I treasure them just like I treasure my own children's art. I too have saved a packet of drawings that my children did and will pass them along some day when they can appreciate them as much as I do.
In my last post Mom asked about my earlier pictures. Here are a few....I won't bore you with all of them, some of them are pretty funky. I wonder what I was thinking back then? I do remember drawing this one with a horse on every hill. That would have been heaven to me, a horse everywhere I looked. I think I was about 7 or 8 at this time. I think these are supposed to be Shetland ponies. Or caveman horses. It's hard to tell.

Oh Patty, I like reading your blog too! Isn't it funny the way your perspective changes as you get older: "I suppose any parent would encourage a child to do something quiet that keeps them occupied for long periods of time!" Haha, too true.

Aren't you lucky to have parent that encouraged art. My Mom thought drawing and writing were a waste of time. Love seeing these things from the past.

Wow - what an incredible gift to give a child. That was so special of your mom to save them. My mom really didn't encourage much, I was an introvert which lead me to write a lot. That turned out great because I was born to write. Now if I could just stop and send one of my books to the publisher (smile)

Do you still have the pic of the tiger and stuff you drew for us that you used to tell us stories?

Those are so precious, you were a great artist, even as a child. That's great that your folks encouraged you in something you loved to do.

It's wonderful that you mother saved your drawings. With 5 kids it was probably difficult to weed out the keepers.

yeah...I was kid number 4-5...where's my precious drawings mommy?! just kidding! You saved some of mine too although it's easy to say that they weren't near as saveable as Pattys! Patty was/is truly gifted!
Post some more Patty. I know you're worried and think that we might think you're bragging but you should know that we really do wanna see them. They're neato to see what a kid can draw.
