Lake Hood

Lake Hood is the small aircraft capital of the world. I believe (been told this by the tourism bureau) that Lake Hood, in Anchorage, has the largest amount of privately owned small airplanes in the world. In the summer it is a beehive of activity as planes land and take off on floats. We used to live at one end of Lake Hood (behind that hotel you can see in center of pic) and on Saturdays it was almost impossible to sit outside and hold a conversation due to the never-ending drone of airplanes flying overhead.
Some planes have tie-downs right on the lake. Others are on adjacent property. I especially love this orange and yellow one. Isn't she a beaut?!

It's one of my Dad's planes. I think I may have lost D. due to the numerous dog posts I do, but this will drag him back in. He can't resist pictures of airplanes, especially his own.

Dad has no internet now. Has not for the past few weeks. I remember when I lived nest to the lake, I swear I was going to drill some holes in some floats to keep twin otters from taking off at 4am!
