Fur Rondy - Parade

One of the highlights of the Fur Rondevous is the Grand Parade.....or not. I used to stand and watch the whole thing back when the kids were little. But lately, I don't even bother going downtown for it. Until today. I did it for you!

The reasons I don't particulary care for the parade is 1. it's kind of boring unless you know a kid in the girlscouts or the boyscouts, or someone driving an antique car. 2. It's cold 3. Too many people - I'm not as bad as my sweetie, but I don't like crowds either. 4. Parking is terrible, you can hardly park within 5 blocks of it because of the roads being blocked off for the carnival, parade and dog sled racing.

But here are some highlights. This is the "Ride the Reindeer" group...all the horses have reindeer antlers on their heads.

This is Miss Teen Alaska or Fur Rondy.....I couldn't read her banner.

This is the Mountain Biking Association - I missed the whole group, there were 6 of them. (this pic is for you Lisa!)

And this was the highlight for me. Some fool lady was walking the parade route in THESE shoes. The parade goes for several blocks I hope she had plans to duck out along the route somewhere. Where I was standing, she had already walked two blocks. By the way, she was with the girlscouts group...I'm not sure this is a good example of "being prepared".

Thanks for braving the crowd for us. I feel like I'm being served a slice of Alaskan pie through your blogs!

I wouldn't wear heels like that in a parade if it was 80 deg. out, much less winter time.

That must be some crazy lady! Heels on ice?
Did you have any fun food? Where you by yourself or did Alicia come?

I went by myself because Alicia wouldn't hang out with me. I had halibut chowder and salmon sandwich at The Salmon Chowder House. It was ok. I should have gone to Lucky Wishbone, but traffic was terrible.

I feel really honored Patty that you took a bike picture for me...thank you so much, I love it!

You know, that parade actually looked fun, even if it was cold outside.

The lady in the heels? I'm sure she could not feel her toes by the end of the parade route..trust me!

Great photos...The one of the high heeled pumps was hilariious! :)

I just read your comment about starting a sketch journal...WONDERFUL!!! A big WOOHOO from the desert to you!

I find that it's a great way to keep a "diary" of sorts...that hopefully you will have to treasure "forever"! LOL :) All the best to you in your efforts! :)

Is Fur Rondy a sort of midwinter "celebration" for sanity's sake? I truly liked your review of the parade....and the lady in the heels. I would not even wear such footwear in any sort of parade....maybe it is too late for her sanity at this point.

I love stilettos as much as the next woman, but not on a day like that! (lol) I hope she doesn't read your blog (smile)

Oh, does this bring back memories... I was born in Anchorage and lived there 10 years. I remember the Rendezvous... lived down the street from some sled dogs and so many wonderful memories. Thanks for sharing... and the laugh at the heels...now THAT is someone who needs a reality check!

I used to work in the Rocky Mountains near Lake Louise, and sometimes I would see people attempting to climb mountains in stilettos and little flip flop sandals. Interesting...
