Cabin rest and relaxation

Mt. McKinley (or Denali as some call it)
We spent three glorious days at the cabin.  It was beautiful, sunny weather with highs in the low 80's.  Lots of mosquitoes and horse flies but that's minor stuff compared to being outdoors in the sun at the cabin.

Taz learned to swim and we spent lots of time throwing her orange float into the lake for her to retrieve.  I cross-stitched a little and read a book.  Sweetie cleared some brush, cut grass and cut up a fallen tree.  He also rowed me around the lake twice.

I haven't used my video portion of the camera much, but tried it out.  Worked pretty well - we'll see if they load okay.  They keep running continuously in fast motion - I don't know how to get them to stop so you can just click on it.....oh well.   Taz is the best at playing keep-away from Roxie.

Roxie enjoying a good back rub.
And a little reminder to be careful...big brown bear tracks!

Vacation Bible School

It's been a year since I last posted pics of Vacation Bible School decorations.  This year our theme is "God is a Strong Fortress".  With that in mind we did a castle theme with knights, fair maidens and I even added a big scary dragon.

This is the back of the auditorium.  My sister Alicia put up this scene over the pretend moat.  My DIL Becky painted the "planks" on plywood for the kids to walk over.

I created these horses with knights ready to do battle.  My friend Johnna helped with dressing the horses and creating the swords and shields.  We made two, they fit between the windows opposite the dragon.

And this is the dragon.  I designed and made him.  Johnna and I both put the scale-like cloth on and stuffing in him to make him stand out. He is about 20 feet long.  I made him in three parts that will come apart easily but it was a little tricky to hang.  This was fun but a lot of work!

There are castle walls and a dragon jail up front along with a knight in shining armor - I will have to figure out how to get the pictures off my smart phone and send them to my pc....I'm still a little tech challenged.

I haven't been blogging much lately at all.  I spent the last three Saturdays working on VBS, and was in the 4th of July parade with my work group.  We are heading up to our cabin for a 3-day weekend for some much needed rest and relaxation.  At least I will.  Sweetie will be cutting grass, planting grass, probably cutting up a downed tree for firewood and various other projects.  He can't just sit and read or draw.
