lunch sketch

So I tried something a little different. I've seen some of my blogger friends sketch their lunch before eating it and thought I'd do it too. And I tried to keep it loose and quick. I have a tendancey to only sketch realistic and very detailed. I just wanted to do something fast - I added a little color once I got home.

My lunch was chai tea and four fresh spring rolls. I like the deep-fried crunchy ones too, but I've been trying to choose the healthier choice when picking the food I put in my mouth. Fresh spring rolls were perfect.

At the Sears Mall is a little lunch spot where you can get Korean BBQ, Japanese, Thai and Chinese all within a few feet of each other. I love that Anchorage is so diverse that we have every imaginable type of food available just about anywhere. This is a sketch of the front counters that I did after eating my lunch. Each counter was very similar; cup of straws, salt/pepper, fake flowers in a vase and menus across the front. The actual counter space is very limited.

  1. I thought you were eating celery stuffed with peanutbutter. :) That sounds almost as good as what you ate. :) I will have to try this loosey goosey sketching. I too try to do too much detail.

  8. We painted our lunch in one of our newly-made sketchbooks in Catherine Carey's Bookbinding Class. Too fun. So I have sketched in Restaurants regularly. I usually watercolor at home--so I can enjoy my food.
Your sketches are so realistic! I always enjoy them.
